When Leeza Hernandez is not working as an art director for a local family magazine this '70s child can usually be found hanging out with her artist family, traveling or noodling in her studio. She is inspired by the world around her—from the changing seasons to other cultures to simple everyday objects.

Her love for line, color and texture is evident in her award-winning work, which has appeared in The Chicago Tribune, American Illustration, and national magazines. She was also the recipient of the SCBWI’s Tomie de Paula Award in 2009 and Winter Conference Art Showcase Award in 2011.

Leeza has illustrated Sandy Donovan’s Bored Bella Learns About Fiction and Nonfiction (Picture Window Books, 2010); Ann McCallum’s Eat Your Math Homework, Eat Your Science Homework and Eat Your U.S History Homework (Charlesbridge, 2011, 2013, 2015); NY Times best-selling author John Lithgow’s Never Play Music Right Next To The Zoo (S&S, 2015)—as well as Dog Gone! and Cat Napped! (Putnam, 2012, 2014)—which she also wrote.

Three facts you may not know about Leeza:
• She loves cheddar cheese (the stronger the better!)
• Her favorite word is “cheeky” followed by “noodle” and “splendiferous”
• Her three favorite Roald Dahl books are Danny, Champion of the World; Fantastic Mr. Fox and George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Leeza currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, daughter and tabby cat, Jasper.
