Mirka charms everyone with her quirky animal characters.

Originally from Finland but now a world traveler, Mirka earned her degree in printmaking. After graduating from University of Dallas with an MFA, in 2006, she has worked around the USA and Europe, teaching printmaking and showing her linocuts and wood engravings at galleries and art fairs.

Her main sources for inspiration are animals and nature. “I love drawing fun animal characters and try to add a hint of humor in every piece with the hopes that my work will put a smile on your face.”

Mirka creates most of her illustrations with watercolors and pencils, with Photo Shop being a secondary tool. She has been a printmaker almost 20 years, and hopes to one day illustrate a book with those skills too. When she is not in the studio, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her children and reading new books to them.
