Tamsin Hinrichsen is a South African based children’s illustrator, specialising in children’s book design. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1974, and still lives there today, in Plumstead. She majored in Graphic Design and illustration at the Cape Town University of Technology.
She always liked drawing and got into trouble at school for doodling on her homework. After doing the posters for her annual school plays and music concerts every year, she decided that she wanted to become an illustrator. She use’s very textured dry brush acrylics with lots of layers. Her favourite stories to illustrate are classic folk-tales about animals.
In her spare time she surfs the internet, plays board games and goes for walks. Her favourite films are MGM musicals, especially ones with Judy Garland or Gene Kelly. She prefers the city to the country because it’s very interesting to see what people can create. When she is working she likes to listen to indie folk music, Broadway soundtracks and audio books.
