Neal Sharp
I graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2003 with a BFA majoring in Illustration. Since then I have focused my efforts on illustrating stories for children. I have learned to never underestimate the discerning taste that kids have for good stories and pictures. An excellent illustration will hook the reader and draw them into the story, no matter what age they are.
My style of illustration includes extensive character design to create memorable characters with strong personalities. The final illustrations are rendered with dramatic lighting, clear staging, subtle textures, a vivid color palette, and a dramatic point of view. Everything must work together in an illustration to portray the sense of mood and action needed by the story.
I work with acrylic and colored pencil often applying many translucent layers of paint for interesting textures and color variations.
Recent clients include Cambium Learning, Mustard Seed Books, Glenndoman Korea, Sopris West, and Mutt Media.
