Ed Boxall
Ed completed an M.A in illustration at Saint Martins College in 1999 and has gone onto write and illustrate several books for Walkers Books. These include Scoot on top of the World, Hugo’s Hullabaloo, Bert and The Burglar, Mr Trim and Miss Jumble and Francis The Scaredy Cat: “An evocative, appealingly simple title that taps into a pre-schooler’s private world” (booklist) Francis The Scaredy Cat was read on the BBC’s ‘Tikkabilla’. Ed illustrates for clients such as Nursery World, Children's Classic Concerts and The Campaign for Child Safety. Most recently he produced a set of illustrations to be projected as part of a performance poetry show on the Brighton Fringe by acclaimed poet Justin Coe. Ed also produces many of his own books for his ‘Pearbox Press’. These include ‘The Storm Tree Stories’, which Ed describes as: “…Books for both children and adults…books for anyone who daydreams. Stories for slowly ambling around rather than stories that are just about racing to the end” Ed often makes books in collaboration with other agencies for the benefit of the local community. These include ‘Your School Needs You’, a book for all school starters in Hastings, made in collaboration with Sure Start. ‘Your School Needs You’ is onto its 3rd reprint and has become part of the adventure of starting school for children in Hastings. Ed also makes woodblock prints, the most recent of which explore his experience of parenthood. Ed says: “The images show the moments of wonder, silliness, enchantment, exhaustion, and fear that come with parenthood. The images use fantasy and visual metaphor in a natural way when reality is not enough to express the emotion in a moment”
